Social Services

Ardagh Social Services is a voluntary group that runs social mornings, health talks, day trips and outings for the parish's older residents and anyone who would enjoy the company. Recent events include a Staying Independent as We Age day, a Christmas party, a wreath demonstration, trips to Knock and the Fr Peyton Centre, and coffee mornings for local charities. Events are low cost or free, lunch or tea is usually part of the day, lifts can often be arranged, and booking is needed for some events. The group also hosts Ardagh Social Dancing, and both the dancing and the 25 Card Game help fund its events.

Fr Peyton day trip to Attymass, Tuesday 30 June

Ardagh Social Services organised a day trip to the Fr Peyton Centre in Attymass, Co. Mayo, on Tuesday 30 June. The bus left Ardagh Community Centre at 10.30am, with a cup of tea on arrival, Mass at 12.15pm, and at 1pm a two-course lunch with tea or coffee. The day finished with music until 3.30 or 4pm, and the bus returned to the centre at about 4pm. The cost was €20 per person, with part of the cost subsidised. What a fantastic day it was. Great company, plenty of laughter, shared memories and a lovely atmosphere from start to finish. Days like these are a great reminder of the importance of coming together as a community and enjoying time with friends, both old and new. A sincere thank you to everyone who travelled, helped with the organisation, and contributed in any way. We hope everyone arrived home safely with lots of happy memories, and we look forward to doing it all again next year.
